Stitching the Pieces Together....

You often read stories from parents about how they want to stop time... they want their kids to stay little... they don’t want them to grow up. I’m here to tell you a different story... One where I am excited watching my son grow and looking forward to the day he may be a self-sufficient adult. I don’t want him to be little anymore, because little was...is hard. Little in his world has always been a challenge, a struggle. I celebrate the unusual things like the day my son slapped his aide across the face, when he ate a new food and lettuce became a mandatory topping on his burgers, when he fell asleep before 11pm and STAYED asleep past 3am, when HE decided he could walk home from the bus stop ALONE, at age 11. One piece at a time, we stitch it all together. I’m here to tell our autism story...
